Guest Post w/ Renee Scattergood

Shadow Stalker Bundle Blitz Feature

Character Guest Post by Drevin
The Corruption of the Shadow Stalkers

I was born a shadow stalker. I grew up blissfully unaware of their corruption from birth. My foster parents raised me well and with a lot of love, but then our Foramar, Zain, shared with me a horrible truth. My parents had mated against the will of the shadow people. They had been separated before my birth, and I was taken from my mother as soon as I was born and brought to Zain.

He was supposed to kill me, but spared my life because he didn't have the heart to kill an innocent child. Of course, I will be forever grateful for his mercy, but when I dreamt his firstborn child with his wife, Frai, would enslave the people of the Serpent Isle, he dismissed my concern as though it meant nothing. None of the shadow stalkers took my warnings seriously, with the exception of a few of the elders.

When I suggested the child should be killed at birth, I was exiled. I knew then the shadow stalkers had been corrupted by the shadow people, our creators. They wanted me, an innocent, killed at birth, but would spare the life of monster. I don't know what plans the shadow people have for the human race, but I am convinced it's not benevolent. I had always wondered why only the Foramar knew the reason the shadow stalkers had been created. I had come to realize the only way the shadow people would be able to control the shadow stalkers would be to limit the knowledge of their true purpose.

I could not allow this to continue. The people of the Serpent Isles deserved to live their lives in peace, but when the shadow stalkers made their move, with their delohi-saqu leading them, those innocent people would never know freedom again. So I started the Way of the Galvadi. The word, Galvadi, is from the shadow language meaning "divine". Through my teachings, the human race can be saved from the corruption of the shadow stalkers.

Demon Hunt Dou Interview w/ Kado & Auren

Kado and Auren Interview for Demon Hunt

I've had the opportunity to speak with Kado and Auren from the Shadow Stalker series about the events that took place in Demon Hunt, a Shadow Stalker prequel novella by Renee Scattergood.

Kathryn: Thanks for joining us today!

Kado: We're honored to be here.

Kathryn: So Auren, what is so exciting about these camping trips Kado would take you on.

Auren: Well, before I knew what they were really about *narrows her eyes at Kado*, they were just the one time Kado and I ever got to have any fun together. It was still like getting the seemingly useless lessons at home, but at least we had some fun putting a lot of those things into practice.

Kathryn: Like the tracking?

Auren: Yeah, and I love climbing and exploring caves. Just as long as it doesn't involve eating grubs.

Kathryn: Yeah, I don't think I'd want to eat grubs either. Kado did you ever look at these trips as an opportunity to bond with Auren?

Kado: To be honest, no. I was focused on her training.

Auren: *whispering conspiratorially* He had fun.

Kado: *rolling his eyes* I never said I didn't have fun. It was just not my focus.

Kathryn: Kado, how did you know Auren was in trouble when she released the demon and how did you get to her so fast?

Kado: She and I share a connection of sorts that I created in the shadow world. It links our spirits to one another and allows me to be able to know her thoughts. When she was attacked by the demon, I felt her pain. Probably not nearly as much as she would have felt it—

Auren: Not even remotely close.

Kado glares at Auren.

Auren: Sorry.

Kado: As I was saying, I felt her pain. Then I travelled to her through the shadow world.

Kathryn: Is it difficult to find someone in the shadow world?

Kado: It is for a young shadow stalker who is still in training, but it's quite easy for an experienced shadow stalker. It's even easier when you have that bond established with someone.

Kathryn: Auren, what was going through your mind when you were laying on the ground injured, after being attacked by the demon, and Kado was walking away from you?

Auren: I knew Kado would never just leave me to die or anything if he could save me. What scared me was I thought he believed I was beyond help and that's why he decided to leave me to go after the demon. I really thought I had been mortally wounded.

Kathryn: What made you change your mind, Kado?

Interview #2 w/ Renee Scattergood

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.

I am Renee Scattergood. I'm currently living in Australia with my husband, Nathan, and daughter, Taiya. We also have two cats, Anakin and Padme, and two guinea pigs, Prince and Sith. I have currently written four episodes in my Shadow Stalker series, which at this point is likely to be about twenty-four episodes long.

What are you working on now?

I'm currently working on Demon Hunt, which is a prequel novella to my Shadow Stalker series. It's a story about a camping trip that Kado and Auren take the year before the start of the series that goes awry when Auren accidentally releases a demon from the shadow world.

How do you come up with the titles for your books? Do you find it difficult?

Sometimes the title just pops into my head as I'm writing. If I don't have a title by the time I'm done with the first draft, I know I'm going to have a hard time with it. Generally I will try to get my story description down to one sentence and try to find a title that describes that.

Shadow Stalker: Forbidden Love (E4) Book Review

Author Renee Scattergood writes another excellent episode in Shadow Stalker: Forbidden Love (Episode 4). Forbidden Love starts where episode 3 left off; with a violent storm. New characters are introduced in episode 4, when Auren visits some of her family for the first time. She makes new friends, has some new adventures, and learns more about the Shadow People, the responsibility of the elders, and new rules.

When Auren meets a new friend, Etan, she finds herself having feelings she had never felt before. Auren and Etan find themselves attracted to each other, but is it love?

Shadow Stalker: The Delohi-saqu's Fate (E2) Book Review

Episode 2 of Shadow Stalker The Delohi-saqu’s Fate, is truly an amazing fantasy story that holds an interesting mentor and apprentice relationship. Scattergood shows off her mysterious new fantasy creature (shadow stalker), with action and creativity that is truly all her own.

Episode 2, takes place on the Dark Isle, the home of the shadow stalkers. On the island Kado begins Auren’s training in how to use her shadow stalker abilities; through a series of deadly lessons. After, each lesson Auren learns new information about her abilities and what Kado has done to protect her over the years.

Character Interview w/ Auren Trask

Tell us a little about you and the world you reside in?

The Serpent Isles are an island chain in the far north of my world. There are other land masses, mostly islands, around the world, but we are far from any of them. We are the most advanced culture on our world as well. Some of the other islands have primitive cultures, but the other islands are not very hospitable places to live. The wildlife is much too dangerous to coexist with on some, and the climates are too harsh on others. We are not sure why our culture seemed to thrive and advance, while others that remain are so primitive, but there are legends that suggest shadow stalkers played a role in that, if you believe in such things.

The Fifth Watcher Book Review

Melissa Barker-Simpson's first attempt at a self-published SFF novella is spectacular. She has created a unique and fascinating world with The Fifth Watcher, with characters that are dynamic and easy to relate to. I was drawn into the story right from the start. It's definitely a book I will read again and again.

The main character, Audrey Montgomery, spends her youth running from some danger she doesn't understand, but it all catches up with her. Throughout the story she is drawn into several parallel worlds where she discovers more about who she is and the truth about her life. Lieutenant Keith Delany is an Interdimensional Officer of the Law, or IDOL for short, who has been given the task of finding and protecting Audrey. He gets a bit more than he bargains for when he discovers that she is more important than anyone could have possibly imagined.

The Fifth Watcher 3-Day Blitz

The Fifth Watcher
by: Melissa Barker-Simpson

November 21st-23rd

Synopsis:

At the moment of Audrey Montgomery’s birth a new world came into existence. It is a barren place, a catalyst for the darkness spreading through the multidimensional system. The shift in power makes Audrey an invaluable pawn in a war between those who want to protect her and those who will go to extraordinary lengths to eliminate her.

As a result, she has spent her life on the run, unaware of her true origins. When her father dies and leaves her with a shocking legacy, her life is irrevocably changed. If she has any hope of surviving, Audrey must embrace her new reality and trust a man who is as dark and uncertain as the future itself.

Lieutenant Keith Delany, an Inter-dimensional Officer of the Law (IDOL), is tasked with bringing her in. It is an assignment his entire team is invested in, having spent years searching for her. As a senior member of the squad, Keith is charged with protecting her, with showing her the truth about her past, and with preparing her for an unknown future. As an IDOL he is responsible for every life, for every traveller who navigates the system. But his connection to Audrey is unprecedented, and he soon discovers she alone holds the power to prevent the continuum’s collapse.

Angelic Confessions Book Interview

Angelic Confessions, is an interesting read. How did you come up with your characters? Were they inspired by people you know or met?

Thank you. Everyone says, “It’s an interesting read.” I guess that is good.  My characters come from my dreams actually, and some were inspired from the angels of religion such as Archangels: Raphael, Michael, Uriel, Gabriel.

Character Interview w/ Aye

You were a very confused child that spent much of her childhood sheltered by Father. Did you ever have true resentment towards him?

I confess I did. I never understood why he sheltered me so much. In the end though I did learn the why he did, but still why didn’t he have more faith in me that I could control the darkness inside me.

Character Interview w/ Pio

The life of an angel is unique. Can you tell us a bit more about what it is like?

For me personally life was doing for my Lord. I am the incarnation of  Father’s mercy, and was very devoted to my work. I dealt with a lot of fallen angels requesting Father’s mercy to return back home, yet I am my own being as well. This lead to butting heads with Father often, an act that could of gotten me expelled. In the end I always complied with my Father’s will.

What was your first impression of the child that was Aye?

I thought she was beautiful, and had one hell of a kick. There was also bit of mystery to her… a sadness too even though Father showered her with anything she wanted.

Interview w/ Jan Marie

What inspired you to become a writer?

I liked the idea of being able to speak your voice without saying a word. I am not much of a talker. There were also certain events in my life that helped push me in that in that direction too.  For example in the 6th grade. The class had to write a story on how a parrot got its colors. The teacher was very impressed with my story showing my mother at parent teacher conference. I think it was at that moment the seeds of being a writer was planted in me. It took time for it to bloom though. It was not until middle school/high school where in English Lit class I got introduced to the works of poets and authors such as Maya Angelo, Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, William Blake. I was then that it all came together inspiring me to try to write myself.
