Demon Hunt Dou Interview w/ Kado & Auren

Kado and Auren Interview for Demon Hunt

I've had the opportunity to speak with Kado and Auren from the Shadow Stalker series about the events that took place in Demon Hunt, a Shadow Stalker prequel novella by Renee Scattergood.

Kathryn: Thanks for joining us today!

Kado: We're honored to be here.

Kathryn: So Auren, what is so exciting about these camping trips Kado would take you on.

Auren: Well, before I knew what they were really about *narrows her eyes at Kado*, they were just the one time Kado and I ever got to have any fun together. It was still like getting the seemingly useless lessons at home, but at least we had some fun putting a lot of those things into practice.

Kathryn: Like the tracking?

Auren: Yeah, and I love climbing and exploring caves. Just as long as it doesn't involve eating grubs.

Kathryn: Yeah, I don't think I'd want to eat grubs either. Kado did you ever look at these trips as an opportunity to bond with Auren?

Kado: To be honest, no. I was focused on her training.

Auren: *whispering conspiratorially* He had fun.

Kado: *rolling his eyes* I never said I didn't have fun. It was just not my focus.

Kathryn: Kado, how did you know Auren was in trouble when she released the demon and how did you get to her so fast?

Kado: She and I share a connection of sorts that I created in the shadow world. It links our spirits to one another and allows me to be able to know her thoughts. When she was attacked by the demon, I felt her pain. Probably not nearly as much as she would have felt it—

Auren: Not even remotely close.

Kado glares at Auren.

Auren: Sorry.

Kado: As I was saying, I felt her pain. Then I travelled to her through the shadow world.

Kathryn: Is it difficult to find someone in the shadow world?

Kado: It is for a young shadow stalker who is still in training, but it's quite easy for an experienced shadow stalker. It's even easier when you have that bond established with someone.

Kathryn: Auren, what was going through your mind when you were laying on the ground injured, after being attacked by the demon, and Kado was walking away from you?

Auren: I knew Kado would never just leave me to die or anything if he could save me. What scared me was I thought he believed I was beyond help and that's why he decided to leave me to go after the demon. I really thought I had been mortally wounded.

Kathryn: What made you change your mind, Kado?

Shadow Stalker Episode 5 - Excerpt

Shadow Stalker: Destiny Reconciled Part 1 (Episode 5) Excerpt

By Renee Scattergood

The sudden change in his demeanor made me giggle. It felt good to laugh again. I wasn't sure I could.

Kado grinned. "I haven't seen any venomous plants, but keep your eyes open."

"Okay." Back to business as usual. I didn't see any of the plants either, thankfully. And there was plenty of wood around after the storm that hit a couple weeks before.

When I returned, Kado was gone. Maybe he had gone to get some wood as well, but normally he would say so. I was about to call for him when he came out of the mist nearly on top of me.

"Sorry," he said. "Just after you left, Cathnor called for me."

"Is everything okay?" I knew the answer to that question by the look on his face, but I hoped he would give me details.

"Not really, no. The council has begun sending emissaries to the other villages. I'm not sure what they're up to, yet, but I think it would be best if we avoid visiting any of the villages for the time being."

Kado didn't have to say it. It was easy to guess. Things were getting out of control.

"There's more. The Coalition has been defeated. The Galvadi Empire controls the Serpent Isles now."

Shadow Stalker Double Feature Tour -Guest Post

My NaNoWriMo 2014 Experience

By Renee Scattergood

When I decided to write Demon Hunt, I wasn't sure if I wanted to actually participate in NaNoWriMo because I knew it was going to be a relatively short novella and I wasn't starting a full length novel anytime soon. Plus I needed Demon Hunt done by the end of December so I could offer it as a holiday/New Year's gift.

I really wanted to participate, though, so I figured I'd write a few of the Shadow Stalker episodes as well to boost my work count. I mean, they're all a part of the same story anyway, so what does it matter that they are separate publications? So that's what I did.

I set my daily word count goal to 2500 words so I could get ahead in case I missed a few day. It's a good thing too. Around the middle of the month I had some personal issues to take care of and I ended up falling behind even though I had been at least 7 days ahead in my word count.

Demon Hunt Review

Demon Hunt

Review

Renee Scattergood has outdone herself once again, by bringing a new direction into the Shadow Stalker series with her prequel novella, Demon Hunt. Scattergood shows a deep connection to this world of her creation, allowing her readers to stand side by side with Kado and Auren as they face a Demon from the shadow world.

Auren faces a moral dilemma that could weigh on her for years to come, and one wrong decision has her and Kado racing against the clock. Scattergood builds tension with great force, as the hunt for a demon threatens, not only Kado and Auren, but innocent villagers throughout the Luten Isle.

Fiction Friday #25 (Demon Hunt Excerpt)-Reblogged

Excerpt From

DEMON HUNT

By Renee Scattergood

Auren braced herself as they started their descent. Everything was going smoothly until they reached the bottom and the canoe lurched, sending her flying forward. Somehow she twisted her body and in the same motion reached her paddle toward Kado, who instinctively grabbed it and anchored her to the canoe. Although landing in the water might have been more ideal than having her body slam into the unyielding wooden base of the canoe. Air was forced from her lungs as though she had been kicked in the gut.

“We’re in calmer waters,” Kado said.

“I hadn’t noticed.” Actually she had noticed the ride down the river had smoothed considerably, but the humor in his tone inveigled a sarcastic response.

He chuckled.

Demon Hunt Review-Re-Blogged

I’m thrilled to be part of Renee’s double feature tour. Not only is she sharing with us the details of the next episode of Shadow Stalker, she has also just released a prequel to the series. The cover design for Demon Hunt is by Kathryn Jenkins, and I’m sure you’ll agree it’s pretty great.

Review

I thoroughly enjoyed Demon Hunt, the prequel to the Shadow Stalker series. I’ve come to know Kado and Auren pretty well over the last four episodes, so this was a wonderful opportunity to explore their earlier relationship. Their camping trips play a big part of the journey, and reference is made to Auren’s childhood training, so taking this adventure with them was a special treat.

Demon Hunt Guest Post-Re-Blogged

I have been a fan of Renee Scattergood’s ‘Shadow Stalker Series’ ever since I read the first episode, The Hidden Truth. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th episodes of the series held me enthralled, as wellNow, she is bringing us ‘Demon Hunt’, (A Shadow Stalker Prequel). This novella takes us back to when Kado first informs Auren that she is a Shadow Stalker, and she is in training.

Renee Scattergood lives in Australia with her husband, Nathan, and daughter, Tayia. She was inspired to become a story-teller by George Lucas, but didn’t start considering writing down her stories until she reached her late twenties. Now she enjoys writing high fantasy, and has recently began publishing her first series, Shadow Stalker. Aside from writing, she loves reading, (Fantasy, of course), watching movies with her family, and doing crafts and science experiments with her daughter.
